Girl Behind the Lens

LESSON 2

Researching with Visual Materials

In this first visual-specific module, we analyse the potential of visual images in activating a virtuous change in society, by leveraging on its potential in reaching a large number of citizens.

Examples from strong images and sounds (i.e. Fall of the Berlin Wall, photos of civilians’ deaths in the Vietnam war, sounds of astronauts reaching the moon, as well as other region-specific moments) will be taken as examples of how social policy research can feed its energy on collective dreams and traumas.

Lesson 2: About

Lesson 2

This module relates to research of social issues through first proposing an understanding of the power held by iconic and diffused images on specfic communities, and later by inviting students to compose and create their own meaningful images in relation to a certain issue. By merging and re-arranging policy research data in a visual medium, researchers guarantee their findings touch and influence larger society and stakeholders beyond the academic sector.
